Ondekoza / Taiko / Japan Ondekoza is the oldest and internationally most famous group that performs with taiko-drumming. Since over 25 years the musicians (men and women) combine meditation and running with music played on several traditional japanese drums and other instruments. In 1997 the group started for the second time a marathon-project: 27.000 km marathon in China. On the 1st of july 1997, when HongKong became a part of China, the adventure began in the former british colony. Until the year 2000 the marathon will be run in several stages combined with concerts in different chinese cities. From 1990 until 93 Ondekoza did already a 15.000 km marathon coast to coast and back in the USA, performing over 300 concerts on their way.
Ondekoza offers on their new CD "Fujiyama among others recent recordings of their famous standards like Monochrome II and Ondeko Bayashi. The recording was realised in Tokio using 24bit technology. To achieve this high recording standard the huge taiko drums had to be dismounted to be brought into the small studios. The members of Ondekoza live nearby the Fujiyama, which is a worldwide japanese symbol. In the same way Ondekozas music stands for japanese music all around the world. In Ondekozas music one finds different japanese rhythmic traditions, folksongs and elements of the noh theatre. A unique tension is created through the rigid metric form of the taiko drumming and the free floating tunes of the shakuhachi flute.
